Game Rules

It’s time to paint the house! Your goal? Paint the whole house while keeping this pesky flies OUT! (For 2-4 players)

To start the game:

Remove the Color Wheel cards from the deck. Give to players as references, if needed. Deal 5 cards to each person and create a draw pile from the remaining cards. Last player to blink in a staring contest goes first.

When it’s your turn:

Take one action per turn (discard 2/draw 2, play room, paint room, or play special card). You will always end your turn with 5 cards in your hand, so draw or discard to 5 cards at the end of each turn. Play continues clockwise.

How to paint rooms:

On your turn, play a room card in the space in front of you. The room card indicates what color to paint the room. For example, if you have a red room card in front of you, play 1 red paint card on that room to paint the room and gain the point value listed on the room card. Primary colors are worth 1 point, secondary colors are worth 2 points.

There are only primary paint cards in the deck, so to create a secondary color you need to combine primary colors: 1 red + 1 yellow = 1 orange, 1 yellow + 1 blue = 1 green, and 1 red + 1 blue = 1 purple.

You can add more coats of paint to the room in subsequent turns to stack points.

Note:

You can only play two of each room type in your house. (For example: Max 2 bedrooms)

If playing with 4 players, you can only play one of each room type in your house (For example: Max 1 bedroom)

Playing and removing SPLAT! cards:

A SPLAT! card can be played on another player’s room card. The SPLAT! card freezes that room (no more painting) AND that room’s points become NEGATIVE points, until the SPLAT! is removed. Remove a SPLAT! with:

  • A pencil card: Requires the pencil card + removing one coat of paint.

  • A leaf blower: Removes the SPLAT! card, but also clears all paint from the room.

When the draw pile is depleted:

Reshuffle, and continue play. If the deck runs out 3x, the game ends automatically.

How to end the game:

There are two ways to end the game:

1. If you’ve painted all 4 types of room in your house (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room), you can end the game on your turn. When you end the game, everyone takes one final turn, except you.

2. If the draw pile runs out 3 times, the game automatically ends.

After the game ends, count up your points to see who the winner is!
